Some fun things to do while you stay in your house!

This illustration comes from a series of illustrations especially created by Axel Scheffler for the lockdown! Do you recognise what book it is from?
He has also written a book all about Covid-19. It is free to download. Click on the button to access the PDF.

Being in Lockdown isn't easy!

Imagine if you got to choose who you were with!
So here's your chance to do just that! Which of the 6 houses would you pick?
Think of what the characters would be like to spend time with, what food in the book you would have to eat and what you would spend most of your day doing?

That during lockdown, many of the magazines to which our library subscribes are available for you to download free. Go to the magazine tab on the DOWNLOAD BOOKS PAGE.

Another one of Axel Sheffler's illustrations reminding us to cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when coughing or sneezing and throw the tissue away after use. If a tissue isn’t available, cough or sneeze into your elbow or sleeve, not your hands.
SOME LIBRARY JOKES TO KEEP YOU SMILING!

What building has the most stories?
– The library!

Why does an elephant use her trunk as a bookmark?
– Then she NOSE where she stopped reading!

Why was the dinosaur afraid to go to the library?
– His books were 65 million years overdue.

This Dog Man drawing activity is from the Dav Pilkey at Home page which is full of all kinds of other fun activities especially for during lockdown. Check out his page! The link is

Can you believe it?
These are the rules for a public library in 1930!

I love the one about not telling lies to the librarian! Really!
I wonder what rules will have to be implemented in our libraries once we open again?

Another one of Axel Scheffler's clever Covid-19 illustrations. This one is easy to guess which one of Julia Donaldson's books it comes from!
REMEMBER
Maintain at least 1 metre distance between yourself and others. Why? When someone coughs, sneezes, or speaks they spray small liquid droplets from their nose or mouth which may contain virus. If you are too close, you can breathe in the droplets, including the COVID-19 virus if the person has the disease.

Spot the difference
Here is another free book about Covid-19 which can help you understand how YOU can help fight the virus. Click on the button to download the book.

These are illustrations done by the illustrator Marcin Piwowarski especially for during the pandemic.

My favourite is his illustration of the nursery rhyme HEY DIDDLE DIDDLE!
CHALLENGE: I'm sure you all know the rhyme very well...but what about learning it in sign language? Watch the clip to see how. Would love you to show me when we get back to school!
You are currently experiencing what it is like to be in lockdown and not able to leave your house.
During the 2nd World War, Anne Frank and her family were in hiding from the Nazis for 2 whole years!
Imagine that!

During that time Anne kept a diary. Have you ever kept a diary? Writing in a diary or journal can be helpful in many ways. Not only does it help us keep track of our lives and activities, but it can also provide a space where we can express our thoughts and feelings without worrying about holding anything back.
Anne Frank's diary became her most trusted friend. Now published as The Diary of a Young Girl, Anne's written account helps us remember the struggles she and other Jewish families faced.

Feel like getting out? Would you like to see where Anne Frank hid? Click on the pin on the world map to take you there!
Enjoyed getting out for a bit? I am going to keep adding places all over the world for you to visit!

Library Word Ladders...

Remember how to do a word ladder?
Change one letter at a time, attempting to move from the starting word to the ending word.
Each must be a valid word, and no proper nouns allowed.
The first one has been done as an example!

Let's get drawing...
